November 5, 2026
In Big Sky this year the first chair comes before the full dinner list. Big Sky Resort opens for the 2026-27 season on Wednesday, November 25. According to Visit Big Sky's fall dining guide, Big Sky Noodles, Alberto's, Blue Moon Bakery and Michaelangelo's Ristorante all stay closed past that date, and the last of them is listed as closed through December 9.
So November does not ramp up to opening day in one straight line. Doors reopen one at a time over five weeks, the mountain lands in the middle of that stretch, and the nights in between belong to the theater, the trivia table and a handful of kitchens that never closed. This is the order it happens in.
This week the first big night is on stage. Big Sky Community Theatre opens "Doublewide, Texas" at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center, with performances Thursday and Friday, November 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. Explore Big Sky reported that the cast includes 11 local actors, and that local musicians Stephanie Kissell and Sarah Mitchell also take part.
For dinner before the show, look at who is open, not at who usually is. A few regulars are on their own short breaks this week. The Visit Big Sky fall dining guide lists these dates:
The Waypoint's own calendar shows the same closure for November 3 through 10.
The same guide shows a dependable core that stayed open through the fall. Beehive Basin Brewery serves every day from noon to 10 p.m. Block 3 runs Tuesday through Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m. Olive B's does weekday lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Thai Basil is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and Sundays until 8. Tips Up opens at 3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, at 11 a.m. on Fridays, and at 10 a.m. on weekends. Pinky G's Pizzeria, Roxy's Market and Hungry Moose Market & Deli keep daily hours, and down the canyon, Buck's serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m. The guide was put together at the end of September, so a quick call before you go still makes sense.
Once The Waypoint reopens after its cleaning break, it hosts most of November's evenings. The Explore Big Sky events calendar lists free Wednesday trivia there on November 11, 18 and 25, plus bingo on Fridays, November 13 and 20. On Saturday, November 14, The Waypoint holds a Lone Peak Film Festival encore at 50 Ousel Falls Road, with shows at 5:30 and 8 p.m.
Weeknight trivia and an encore of an autumn film festival make for a small-town schedule, and November is the one month when the calendar is built mostly for the people who live here.
The rest of mid-month fills in around it:
One Gravity Haus stop goes the opposite way. Unravel Coffee is listed as closed November 9 through 23, so the morning coffee rotation shifts for two weeks right before the lifts start.
Big Sky Resort lists Opening Day for Wednesday, November 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mountain Village. The resort says terrain and festivities details will be posted closer to winter.
For families with someone learning to ski, the change this year is where the learning happens. In its October announcement, the resort named the Explorer Gondola Mid-Station Learning Center as new for this winter. It has its own surface lifts and beginner terrain next to the gondola's mid-mountain station. The Explorer Gondola itself opened in December 2025 and runs from Mountain Village to the Lone Peak Tram. Two après names return as well. Iglu Big Sky, the snow-built bar at the base of the Lone Peak Tram, comes back with a larger footprint, and M by The Alinea Group returns for a second season. Starting in mid-December, the mid-station also hosts the resort's recurring Wednesday avalanche dog demos at 1:30 p.m., the first one listed for December 16.
The mountain kitchens are timed to the lifts. The fall guide lists Cabin Bar & Grill, Scissor Bills and the resort-side Yeti Dogs as closed through Tuesday, November 24, the day before opening.
Opening day falls the day before Thanksgiving, and the town schedule bends around both. The Waypoint is closed Thursday, November 26. Hero Snow Coffee takes its second break of the month, November 23 through 29. Scoops is listed as closed through November 27.
The weekend after brings two community events. The Waypoint screens Warren Miller's "Days Off" on Friday and Saturday, November 27 and 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the venue is promoting show nights through November 29. On Saturday morning, November 28, the Big Sky Chamber hosts a free Small Business Saturday KickOff Party from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at 88 Ousel Falls Road, Unit B1. It falls on the first Saturday the lifts are running.
The resort's first full week of skiing comes and goes while four restaurants are still closed. The fall guide gives these "closed through" dates:
| Restaurant | Listed as closed through | Hours once open, per the fall guide |
|---|---|---|
| Big Sky Noodles | December 2 | Not listed |
| Alberto's | December 4 | Tue–Sat lunch noon–3 p.m., dinner 5 p.m.–close; Sun 11 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Blue Moon Bakery | December 7 | Every day, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. |
| Michaelangelo's Ristorante | December 9 | Not listed; reservations recommended |
| Montana Dinner Yurt | "Opening Mid-December" | Not listed |
Michaelangelo's and Big Sky Noodles have both been listed as closed since September 27. That puts Big Sky Noodles past nine weeks and Michaelangelo's past ten, longer than most of the town's breaks. For anyone planning a celebration dinner in early December, the date on this table matters more than the date the lifts started.
WMPAC fills the first Saturday of the month. "Her Gift, Her Creation," which the venue describes as a celebration of local women's creativity and community, is scheduled for December 5 at 7 p.m. After that, Big Sky Town Center lists the 29th Annual Christmas Stroll for December 11 through 13, 2026, with a tree lighting among the highlights. Times and locations for this year's lighting have not been posted yet.
By the Stroll weekend, every restaurant on the table with a dated closure should be past it. That puts the town's full dinner list back together about two and a half weeks after the first chair.
